Yellow Balau is a naturally durable species that makes it perfect for almost any outdoor application you could think of. Interlocking grain provides a smooth, even texture, and ensures a long maintenance-free service life. These properties make Yellow Balau favorably comparable to other well-known species such as Ipe or Cumaru.
Commonly found in Malaysia and Indonesia, Yellow Balau has been a popular choice in outdoor applications for over 30 years. With a reputation for being blemish and knot-free Yellow Balau is not only highly durable but also allows low-maintenance beauty to be achieved over its service life.
On top of being known for its strength and durability, Yellow Balau is also naturally resistant to things such as decay, insects, and fungus. Due to this, Yellow Balau is an outstanding candidate for oceanfront and marine environment applications such as decks and boardwalks, as well as residential and commercial applications.
With a mixture of stunning golden, brown and red tones Yellow Balau offers a unique color range. This allows the wood to not only shine on its own but creates a beautiful blend with the natural surrounding of any outdoor project. When exposed to sunlight Yellow Balau will darken to a warm mahogany color and will eventually weather to a beautiful, maintenance-free silver patina if left unfinished.
To retain the rich coloring of the wood we recommend a high-quality penetrating oil finish with ultraviolet inhibitors. Pair this with regular cleaning and reapplication of the finish and you are ensuring the wood will retain its beauty for many years.
